I think we're headed towards a very dreadful future much faster than we expect. Actually, I'm not even sure that we are expecting that sort of a future, and by "we," I'm referring to a very broad cohort of humanity.
The future that I'm talking about is a new era of managers. I think, with where the current intelligence stack is headed, with cutting-edge models like Fable 5, GPT-5.6, Sol, and other Chinese frontier AI models (which are obviously distilled from Western models), they are actually distilled quite well.
With the advent of these models, I think it is becoming easier and easier to not just write code, but also for the other tasks that didn't quite scale well with AI. These tasks are now gradually getting there, and I want to highlight a new opportunity for these AI companies to really seize a new, sizable portion of the market.
I think the future of work is going to be where AI is controlling humans, not in a bad sense, but not in a good one either.
I think the only work that is going to exist is going to be that of people at the grassroots levels of development, like researchers and not even software developers. I think just researchers, as well as those at the top layer of the organization, which is the executives and the board, who are also eventually going to cease to exist.
In the end, I think the only people who are going to be left with any minor sense of purpose are going to be researchers, who are also going to get redundant in another short while.
To that end, I think the tools that are to be made for this sort of a future are not very difficult to make. They are basically going to be micro-surveillance tools where agents are going to continuously review your work.
The smarter agents with smarter models are going to capture your intent and really how you are feeling or what you're thinking. As the hardware catches on, I think that this capture of intent and thought is only going to get better.
Apart from micro-surveillance, what are these tools going to do? These tools are otherwise going to be like a company-wide directory or a shared company brain, perhaps, like what companies like Composio are already doing.
Also, I think a pioneer in this field would be Gleam, founded by Arvind Jain, who is also the co-founder of Rubrik. I think that it is a very visionary company which is automating the future of work.
I would assume that when he started this company, which was back in 2023 or 24, he wouldn't have even briefly thought of where this sort of technology is headed. How dangerous, or I would say, how dangerously good it is, or it will get in the future.
I think we are just at the point where people are now starting to realize that this actually might just not be worth our time.
In the end, I think the question again just becomes: where are humans going to delegate their time and resources? If not building stuff or working at places, is it going to go back to farming, to a pre-tech technology era, but with technology, or is it going to go to a slavery era where the society again gets restructured into slaves?
Where everyone is going to be a slave, just some with greater privileges and some with lesser? I don't know, it's just a wild thought.
